Our Mission

The mission of Whittier Elementary School is to provide an interactive, hands-on approach to inquiry and project-based learning focused on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

 

Our Programs

Whittier Elementary School is a STEM school, where PreK3 - Grade 5 students are exposed to hands-on STEM activities & challenges in all contents throughout the academic school year and beyond.

 

STEM

All students are exposed to STEM and project-based learning in their classrooms. Our Grade 2-Grade 5 students travel to our STEM Lab for reinforcement, instruction, design challenges, and a plethora of other activities.
 

CLUBS

All students participate in a wide range of clubs every Friday from 2:30PM-3:10PM.

ELL

Our ELL program helps students grasp the complexities of our language and culture through learning activities that connect to the studentโ€™s prior experience; complex thinking and challenging activities; language and literacy development; observation and modeling; and instructional conversations.

WHITTIER GARDEN

We are proud to support our community through our garden, which produces beautiful flowers and fresh fruit, vegetables, and herbs tended by our teachers, staff, and students.

Whittier Elementary School is located in Ward 4, Northwest Washington, D.C. Our school serves nearly 400 students in Pre-K3 through 5th Grade.

Whittier Elementary School is a STEM catalyst school. Our school is designed around science, technology, engineering and mathematics. We engage students in rich and rigorous STEM learning, set high expectations for their participation and performance, prepare them for success in college and careers, and encourage the pursuit of advanced STEM careers.

Whittier Elementary School uses a team approach for instruction where teachers work collaboratively. Student performance is monitored and instruction is modified to meet their individual needs.
